Carol Sykes, one of our euphonium players, is being presented with a bouquet from the band. Unfortunately, Carol has had to retire from playing due to ill health. She has also kindly donated her euphonium to the band, which was played today by Cath Mawson, who is helping us out over the season. And played a solo for Carol.

Howard has been playing at Sewerby Park for 60 years. He was 12 years old when he first played in the park with the Bridlington Excelsior Band. At the beginning of the year, after 46 years on the euphonium with the Hunmanby band, Howard moved on to the Eb Bass.

Our solo horn player, Denise Wood's great-grandfather, played in the Filey Town band. He was Amos Danby, pictured on the right-hand side on the bass. in the black and white photo below.

Another photo of Filey Town band (Date unknown)

I found this photo of the Filey Town band and a write-up in the Hunmanby band's archives. I think someone must have thought this was Hunmanby band. You can clearly see the recently discovered bass drum

Where is V.B`` ? Sadly, all good things come to an end. Is it really 15 years since the band was formed !!
How time passes. The pandemic has put paid to a great many of the events we enjoyed doing :-
Filey Bandstand, North Yorkshire Moors Railway,
Charity events, Church fetes, Weddings, and many others.
Unfortunately, some band members have retired or left us for good, so it has been decided to concentrate solely on Hunmanby Silver Band. As the new season gets under way, there will, hopefully, be more time for rehearsals (twice weekly).
Thank you for all the support you have given the band.
Another era passes.

ROB DAWSON - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a valued member of the band after a short illness. Rob was a true gentleman, a good euphonium player and a great friend to us all. He will be sorely missed.
On a personal note - Rob joined the band about five years ago, having not played for quite a number of years, I remember the first rehearsal he attended and afterwards he said to me that he was a bit rusty, well if that was rusty it didn`t sound it to me. I also remember saying to Rob, i`ll soon have you on 1st Euph. Rob and I were a good team, I thoroughly enjoyed playing alongside him. We both knew each others strengths and weaknesses. I will miss him immensely. R.I.P ROB. (Howard Newlove - Euphonium)
